The design for this Buffalo Silver Round is inspired by the original coin’s artwork created by sculptor James Earle Fraser during the presidency of William H. Taft. This design has a rich history behind it. Fraser utilized his childhood memories of travelling through Minnesota and the Dakotas with his father, interacting with the American Bison (“buffalo”) and Native American tribes. Additionally, three Native American chiefs posed for the portrait on the obverse. The original Buffalo Silver coin known as “Indian Head Nickel” was minted in 1913-1937 and is considered one of the best coins in American coinage.
